Rubbernecker Accident

Don't let an accident on one side of a highway lead to a rubbernecker accident on the other.

Animated loop of woman looking and pointing to the side, then crashing, symbolic of a 'rubbernecker' that could lead to a 'rubbernecker accident'.When going slowly past an accident -- or any time law enforcement has someone pulled over on the side of the road -- be careful about paying attention to the traffic in front of you.

Don't get so distracted by what you see on the side of the road that you forget to look where you're going.

As I was traveling on I-16 in the Savannah, Georgia area on November 12, 2013, I saw a Ford Taurus that had rear-ended a pick-up truck just before coming up on the accident photographed below.

There is no excuse for a rubbernecker accident because it is completely preventable.
