Restaurant Review TA West Virginia Wheeling
Date: 9/9/2010
Location: TA (TravelCenters
of
America),
Wheeling, WV, I-70, exit 11
Overall Facility: Restaurant Review TA West Virginia Wheeling
- This restaurant was laid
out a little differently from other TA restaurants we've been
in.
- There was a hot bar,
salad bar, soup area, case to keep rolls warm and even cereal
dispensers up when we went in for a very late lunch.
Pros: Restaurant Review TA West Virginia Wheeling
- There was plenty of just about
everything on the bars when we came through, in all food areas.
- Mike's salad was composed of
lettuce, cherry tomatoes, diced hard boiled egg, shredded cheddar
cheese, French salad dressing, sunflower kernels and chow mein noodles.
- Mike had barbeque ribs, mashed
potatoes, and sweet and sour meatballs on boiled and buttered noodles
on his first entrees and sides plate from the hot bar.
- He also got a bowl of chicken
noodle soup.
- Vicki's salad was composed of
lettuce, cherry tomatoes, sliced cucumbers, diced hard boiled egg,
sunflower kernels and
shredded cheddar cheese.
- Vicki had baked chicken,
barbequed beef, turkey and dressing, corn,
carrots, mashed potatoes and boiled, buttered noodles from the hot
bar.
- She also got chunks of
cantaloupe and honeydew melon, some chocolate mousse and a warm roll
with butter.
- On Mike's second trip to the
hot bar, he got more barbeque ribs, turkey and dressing, and mashed
potatoes with gravy.
- Mike got a portion of chocolate
mousse and a dessert that he guessed was an apple cake (sort of like a
spice cake or monkey bread, but with apples).
- Our waitress, Tracy, was
friendly and brought our drinks with lemon wedges in a side dish as
Mike
requested. She also brought extra napkins. Our used dishes were whisked
away fairly quickly.
- The barbeque ribs had a good
flavor; the smoke flavor and sweetness blended just right.
- We both enjoyed the turkey and
dressing dish.
- Vicki said that the baked
chicken was so tender that it just about fell apart being lifted onto
her plate.
- The mashed potatoes had a
little hint of flavor like garlic that made them taste great.
- Vicki noticed that the cooked
carrots were not overcooked but still had some body to them.
- Mike
said that the chicken noodle soup had nice chunks of chicken in it, the
broth stayed thick and the noodles were not overcooked. It had a good
flavor and the temperature was just right.
- The chocolate mousse was thick,
creamy and very chocolatey, just the way we like it. Yum!

Cons: Restaurant Review TA West Virginia Wheeling
- Vicki noticed as soon as she
sat down at the table that it was a little tacky to the touch, as
though it had been wiped down but not thoroughly cleaned.
- Vicki saw that there were a few
pieces of salad-making vegetables that were a little past their prime,
such as a wrinkled up cherry tomato, on the salad bar.
- There was no cottage cheese on
the salad bar.
- Although there was a type of
beans on the hot bar, there was not a single hot green vegetable there
(like peas, green beans or broccoli).
- We wish that Mike's drink glass
had been re-filled more promptly. Vicki's glass was never re-filled.
