Hello. Thanks for asking a question through our website.

DAT TruckersEdge - Most Loads. Best Rates. Serving Owner-Operators Since 1978. 10% off your first 12 months. New customers only.

Previously, we wrote about microwave ovens in the meal preparation section of our site. But we did not discuss which one is “best” because different people might have different ideas about which appliances are best.

For use in a truck, you will want to make sure that you don’t use any of the microwaves that exceed the capacity of your power source. For example, if you have a battery-connected inverter that provides 1500 watts of power, you don’t want a 2000-watt microwave oven.

Similarly, if you buy a microwave that has too low of a wattage rating, it could take a very long time to cook or reheat food.

We do not recommend using a DC-powered microwave oven, but are willing to take product reviews of these devices from truckers who have used them (with either good or bad results).

Two things to bear in mind about using microwaves are the safety concerns and also the internal capacity of the unit (if it is large enough to accommodate the dishes you plan to place in it).

Microwave ovens are appliances designed for convenience. You will need to make sure that if you have one in your truck that it is secured against jarring while you’re traveling.

When you have selected your unit of choice, please provide a review on our site (complete with a photo or two). We’ll be very interested to know how it works out for you and how much money you save by using it.

Mike and I wish you safe travels and lots of money saving opportunities on the road.

Best regards,
Vicki Simons
