Hi, James,

Even though your question is not specifically related to professional truck drivers saving money, the minimum distance between the front of the tractor trailer and the landing gear in the down or dropped position depends on the rig (length of the tractor) and other factors.

You need to make sure that you have adequate turning distance from your fifth wheel so that the rear of the tractor doesn’t collide with the landing gear. Of course this would apply whether the landing gear is up or down.

Please consult with your truck’s dealership or your trucking company for specifics.

If you are a professional truck driver, we wish you safe travels and lots of money saving opportunities on the road.

Best regards,
Vicki Simons
