Goal Setting Tips for Truckers

Collection Agency Question

We provided a collection agency question revealed in response to a question asked through our website.

Collection Agency Question: What is an exact description of the product or services for which the collection is being made? Here's the question we received on June 11, 2021:

i quit my job in 2017, spoke with a fleet manager, returned the truck to the terminal. after nearly four years i'm contacted by a collection agency saying i owe the trucking company 400 dollars. never once was i called, and they have my number. in fact they the trucking company have called on numerous occasions for me to return. what can i do

This was Vicki's reply:

Hello, [first name deleted for protection],

Thank you for contacting us through our website,

I'm sorry that you've experienced this!

The very first thing that I would do if I was in your shoes is get an exact description of what the charges are for which the collection is being made.

Do not let anyone bully you into paying something that is not your responsibility!

You mentioned quitting and returning the truck to the terminal.

I trust that:

  • you returned the truck in good condition;

  • you got someone to sign a piece of paper (like a receipt) saying that you returned the truck and in good condition; and

  • you received that signed piece of paper in-hand.

Depending on what happens, you may need to get an actual attorney to write a letter or make a phone call in your behalf.

I have some information on our website about trucker attorneys and which legal services plan we personally use.

Please let me know what happens.

If you're still in trucking, my husband Mike and I wish you safe travels and lots of money saving opportunities on the road.

Best regards,

Vicki Simons
