  • How to Find Diesel

In light of the fuel shortages that have resulted from the Colonial Pipeline "cyberattack," it is good to remember that technology can be your friend.

There may be a number of Smartphone apps that can help you find diesel.

One tried and true method of finding gasoline -- and diesel -- is GasBuddy, which has apps for Android and iOS devices.

  • Continue Being Your Best Professional Self

In the animated movie "Frozen," a lady troll sang in the song "Fixer Upper," the following:

"People make bad choices if they're mad or scared or stressed,
But throw a little love their way, you'll bring out their best."

When people -- who normally have a free flow of fuel to meet their travel needs -- are suddenly confronted with fuel shortages, they may get a bit testy.

Seek to "love your neighbor as you love yourself" and give fellow motorists extra grace in these difficult times.

Watch out for and refuse to become engaged in any kind of road rage encounter.

You are the professional; you can rise above petty irritations; and you can apply these sayings to your life:

    - "Accidents bring tears, safety brings cheers."

    - "Prepare and prevent, don't repair and repent."

    - "Stop accidents before they stop you."

Remember that in a driving "encounter," one driver may "start" something, but the other driver doesn't have to "give in" to emotion and let the encounter escalate.

Some challenges simply aren't worth meeting.

If necessary, ask and answer the question:

"What would a true professional truck driver do in this situation?"

Be safe in every situation. No crunchies!

Earn More, Save More

According to a May 11, 2021, article:

"In response to the possibility of fuel shortages, on Sunday the FMCSA issued a 17 state Hours of Service waiver for truck drivers hauling fuel to try to minimize supply disruptions."

It is admirable for tanker drivers to want to respond to consumer needs by driving outside the standard Hours of Service regulations during the current waiver.

Please do not overextend yourself, drive tired, and get involved in an accident.

Hopefully, those who exceed the standard HOS regulations in this case will earn more money for their efforts.

Bear in mind that most drivers in situations like this are still trading their time for money.

Wouldn't you like to learn how you can earn a second income for truckers that is based on a different income model?

Before the end of the month, many Americans will celebrate Memorial Day, the traditional start of the summer vacation season.

As things start to get "back to normal" in some respects, more people will likely be on the roads during this weekend -- and have their minds on fun and not on driving.

Some people may be driving vehicles much larger than those they normally drive.

While you should always drive defensively, please be alert to drivers and haulers of recreational vehicles and those transporting boats.

Also, if you have an appointment to pick up or deliver a load on Monday, May 31 (Memorial Day), you may want to double-check your appointment.

Finally, if your company pays holiday pay over the Memorial Day weekend -- and if you intend to earn it -- make sure you know all of the terms involved.

To all of our readers who are professional truck drivers, we wish you safe travels and lots of money saving opportunities on the road!

Best regards,

Mike and Vicki Simons, Owners
