Shower Review TA Tennessee Greeneville

This "Shower Review TA Tennessee Greeneville" is a review of the shower facility at the TA (TravelCenters of America) in Greeneville, TN, USA, based upon our own expectations of what a shower facility that caters to professional truck drivers of commercial motor vehicles should be like, our own preferences (especially in comparison to a home bathroom), and our observations.

This facility is also known as the Greeneville Travel Center.

Shower Review

Date: 4/9/2010

Location: TA, Greeneville, TN, I-81, exit 36

Overall facility: Shower Review TA Tennessee Greeneville

  • Showers assigned via kiosk (swipe TA RoadKing card)
  • Extra towels were already wrapped and stored in a stand-up cabinet
  • There was no wait for a shower at the time we needed it, so we don't know how showers are queued
  • Shower is free with minimum 50 gallon purchase of fuel from a TA Travel Center anywhere in the nation within the last 5 days.

Shower #1

Pros: Shower Review TA Tennessee Greeneville

  • There was keyless entry with either a PIN or swiping with a RoadKing card
  • Door had a deadbolt lock
  • Counter space at sink was sufficient to meet our needs
  • Mirror was well positioned on wall behind sink for both short and tall drivers
  • Water pressure from sink was good
  • Electrical outlets worked well
  • Water pressure in shower was good, almost too hard
  • Showerhead was like one at home and could be positioned easily
  • Shower curtain prevented shower spray from splattering on floor outside stall
  • Towels were sufficiently absorbent
  • Washcloths were thicker than the towels
  • Towel rack was directly outside the shower stall so that a towel could be reached from inside the stall
  • A "seat" inside the shower stall was large enough for holding toiletries (but not large enough for a good-sized individual to sit on)

Cons: Shower Review TA Tennessee Greeneville

  • As soon as we walked in the door, we detected a musty or mildewy odor
  • As soon as we stepped further into the room, we noticed water on the floor
  • Room was very foggy during showers, evidence that the ventilation in the room was insufficient
  • There was no fan in the room
  • After one of our showers, Vicki noticed that water was condensing on the vent above the sink/counter. When a drop got big enough, it would fall. The problem only got worse when and after Mike showered.
  • The mirror was discolored near the bottom
  • Soap dispensers were missing (having been removed) from near the sink and inside the shower stall
  • The shower was designed such that one had to get wet to adjust the water pressure or temperature
  • Although the room may have been "cleaned," there was much evidence of hard usage and mold/mildew in the grout in the shower stall
  • Of the space for two hooks on the back of the door, only one was present
  • The cover for the toilet paper was not locked into place and fell open with very little effort
  • There was no seat in the room outside the shower stall for a shower bag
  • Although there was a light in the shower stall itself, overall lighting in the room was close to being inadequate
  • The "lip" on the edge of the shower stall seemed a bit high and could pose a dangerous situation for someone entering or exiting the shower
  • Old graffiti on and near the door was not removed

Note: This shower is "past its prime" and is in serious need of renovation. If other showers at this location are like this one, management needs to take a shower in these facilities and compare them to their showers at home to see the difference.

Mike says, "If any old place will do and you're willing to just have hot water for a shower, then this place will fill the bill. But for those of us who believe we're worthy of better facilities, it leaves a great deal to be desired, especially when you're limited on choices."

Overall grade for this shower at this facility on a scale of A+ to F- (with A+ being the best, F- being the worst): D
