Shower Review Pilot Georgia Dalton

This "Shower Review Pilot Georgia Dalton" is a review of the shower facility at the Pilot Travel Center in Dalton, GA, USA, based upon our own expectations of what a shower facility that caters to professional truck drivers of commercial motor vehicles should be like, our own preferences (especially in comparison to a home bathroom), and our observations.

Shower Review

Date: 6/8/2010

Location: Pilot Travel Center, Dalton, GA, I-75, exit 326

Overall facility: "Shower Review Pilot Georgia Dalton"

  • Showers assigned automatically via kiosk
  • Keyless entry via keypad (code on printout from kiosk)
  • Shower number being called could be heard in the travel store
  • Shower customer number and shower number could be seen on display in the travel store
  • Shower is free with minimum 50 gallon purchase of fuel from a Pilot Travel Center anywhere in the nation within the last 5 days.

Shower #3

Pros: "Shower Review Pilot Georgia Dalton"

  • Shower was clean upon arrival
  • There was plenty of counter space at the sink
  • Fan worked well
  • Mirror was well positioned on wall behind sink for both short and tall drivers
  • There was a ceiling mounted light over the mirror, to allow male shower customers to keep from getting nicked while shaving.
  • Water pressure from sink was good
  • Electrical outlets worked well
  • Showerhead was positioned far enough back in the stall to minimize splattering on floor outside stall
  • There was no significant change in water pressure or discernible change in water temperature when a toilet was flushed.
  • Door had a deadbolt lock that worked well
  • Door restrictor worked well
  • Towels were thick and thirsty, like beach towels
  • Washcloths were sufficiently thick
  • Toilet flushed well
  • One towel and washcloth was waiting for us in the room; we were able to get two more towels from the attendant, which had two more washcloths folded up inside.
  • There were two shower attendants milling around when we arrived.
  • A packaged bar of soap was in the room.
  • The "decorations" in the room included a vase of artificial eucalyptus on the counter (in the corner) and two John Deere signs on the walls.
  • There was a good amount of lighting in the room.
  • Built-in seat was just right for our oversized shower bag.
  • There were 5 towel hooks in the room: one on the back of the door, three on the wall behind the door and one directly outside the shower stall, so that customers could reach the towel from inside the stall.
  • There was a goodly amount of room between the toilet and the toilet paper dispenser.
  • The room was spacious enough to keep us from feeling crowded.
  • A letter from the Store Director was mounted in a frame on the wall near the mirror, in which he stated his appreciation for our business and he provided info if we needed to contact someone either personally or by phone. This was a nice touch.
  • Two pieces of candy were waiting for us, which was also a nice touch

Cons: "Shower Review Pilot Georgia Dalton"

  • The showerhead and water pressure combination was the "sand blaster" type: the water flow was way too hard. Management needs to back off on the pressure by at least 25%.
  • Showerhead was too close to the ceiling to be positioned by shorter customers
  • Shower water could not be turned on without getting wet
  • The mirror was slightly discolored in places.
  • It got a little warm in the room while we were there; even though the mirror never fogged up, the ventilation could have been a little better.
  • Normally on a sink, the hot water faucet is on the left and the cold water faucet is on the right; in this shower room, the temperatures were reversed (cold on left, hot on right).

Overall grade for this shower at this facility on a scale of A+ to F- (with A+ being the best, F- being the worst): B+
