Shower Review Pilot Georgia Braselton

This "Shower Review Pilot Georgia Braselton" is a review of the shower facility at the Pilot Travel Center in Braselton, GA, USA, based upon our own expectations of what a shower facility that caters to professional truck drivers of commercial motor vehicles should be like, our own preferences (especially in comparison to a home bathroom), and our observations.

Shower Review

Date: 5/26/2010

Location: Pilot Travel Center, Braselton, GA, I-85, exit 129

Overall facility:

  • Showers assigned automatically via kiosk
  • Keyless entry via keypad (code on printout from kiosk)
  • Announcement of shower assignment could be heard in travel store and seen on the display
  • Able to get more towels from attendant
  • Shower is free with minimum 50 gallon purchase of fuel from a Pilot Travel Center anywhere in the nation within the last 5 days.

Shower #2

Pros: "Shower Review Pilot Georgia Braselton"

  • Shower was clean upon arrival
  • Counter space at sink was adequate to meet our needs
  • Fan worked very well; when the mirror got fogged during Mike's shower, merely turning on the fan cleared the mirror right up.
  • Mirror was well positioned on wall behind sink for both short and tall drivers
  • There was a light directly over the mirror, allowing male shower customers to shave closely without getting nicked
  • Water pressure from sink was good
  • Electrical outlets worked well
  • Water pressure in shower was good
  • Showerhead delivered water in a good spray (like a home showerhead). Mike said that the spray was so enjoyable that he could have stayed in the shower much longer, relaxing under the water flow. The spray and pressure were just perfect for both of us.
  • Showerhead could be positioned where needed
  • Door restrictor was in good working order
  • Towels were thick and thirsty; two were like beach towels
  • Washcloths were sufficiently thick
  • Toilet flushed well
  • There were four towel hooks in the room, one on the back of the door and three together on the wall adjacent to the door opposite the shower stall
  • A paper bathmat was provided
  • There was a soap dispenser in the shower with liquid soap in it
  • The towel and washcloth waiting for us in the shower room was fresh from the dryer and nice and warm
  • There was a streak of red paint on the wall just above the door frame, showing that the frame had been repainted at some point. Whether this was to spruce up the decor or to cover over graffiti, we liked the attention to detail.

Cons: "Shower Review Pilot Georgia Braselton"

  • There was one hair on the counter area when we arrived, and a small dark speck of something on the toilet seat
  • Built-in seat was not wide enough for our oversized shower bag to rest on
  • Shower water pressure reduced when someone flushed a toilet
  • Shower water temperature got slightly warmer whenever someone flushed a toilet
  • There was some dust on the wall near the sink
  • In the middle of the afternoon, we were delayed in getting a shower for about 20 minutes until one opened up
  • None of the towel hooks was directly outside the shower stall so that the user could reach a towel from inside the stall to dry off; however, the customer could have set the towel on the counter directly outside the stall.
  • A fly that had flown into the room buzzed around until we dealt with it.
  • There were the beginnings of mold or mildew in the grout between the wall tiles in the shower stall.

Notes: "Shower Review Pilot Georgia Braselton"

For one or more reasons we don't understand, there was an air blower set up to blow air down the shower room hallway along the floor on the day we did this review.

This facility is the last major truck stop going southbound on I-85 before getting to Atlanta, and conversely the first one on I-85 coming out of Atlanta on the northbound side. Timing the traffic flow into and out of this facility may be the key to getting a timely shower.

Overall grade for this shower at this facility on a scale of A+ to F- (with A+ being the best, F- being the worst): B+
