Restaurant Review TA Pennsylvania Harrisburg

This "Restaurant Review TA Pennsylvania Harrisburg" is a review of the Country Pride restaurant at the TA (TravelCenters of America) in Harrisburg, PA, USA, based upon our own expectations of what a restaurant that caters to professional truck drivers of commercial motor vehicles should be like -- as well as our own preferences in foodstuffs. This facility is also known as the Harrisburg Travel Center.

Restaurant Review

Date: 6/16/2010

Location: TA Stopping Center, Harrisburg, PA, I-81, exit 77

Overall facility: Restaurant Review TA Pennsylvania Harrisburg

  • The main buffet is on the four sides of a single rectangle with a hot bar and desserts on one long side, the salad bar on the other long side, and soups on one short side.
  • Another hot bar, which we didn't even notice until after we were done eating, was over near a wall.
  • Diners may order from the menu.
  • This was a lunch meal for us.

Pros: Restaurant Review TA Pennsylvania Harrisburg

  • There was plenty of just about everything on the bars when we came through.
  • Mike ate fried chicken, barbeque pork ribs, cooked broccoli, rice, boiled red potatoes, a salad, orange gelatin and pineapple upside down cake.
  • Vicki ate baked chicken, barbeque pork ribs, cooked broccoli, cooked cauliflower, green beans, carrots, boiled red potatoes, macaroni and cheese, a salad, and a piece of chocolate cake.
  • Our waitress, Yvonne, was friendly and outgoing. Mike asked for extra napkins during his initial drink order and Yvonne provided them. She also brought more napkins upon Mike's request after he ate ribs and needed them to wipe his hands.
  • We agree that the barbeque pork ribs had a good flavor.
  • The salad bar featured fresh spinach, slightly more mature than "baby spinach."
  • There was chocolate cake available on the bar.

Cons: Restaurant Review TA Pennsylvania Harrisburg

  • The cooked broccoli had obvious yellow buds or flowerettes on top, a sign of either age or leaving it in the refrigerator too long.
  • The cooked cauliflower displayed dark discoloration on top, a sign of age. It was also overcooked.
  • There was no cottage cheese on the salad bar.
  • We felt that our used plates could have been taken away more quickly. They were actually taken away by another employee, a man, who wheeled out a cart from the back.
  • Mike's order of water with lemon was filled with one glass each of water with three wedges of lemon floating on top (not put on the top lip of the glass).
  • Our drink glasses were never refilled during our meal. Since this happened, two wedges of lemon in each glass went to waste as there was no additional water to squeeze a wedge into.
  • In order to use TA RoadKing Club points to help pay for the meal, Mike had to go get a "voucher" from the kiosk and then return to the cashier. This was senseless as the restaurant should have been able to accept the points directly off the RoadKing Club card.
