Does it work as advertised?

Let’s look at what the labels say…

Lucas Upper Cylinder Lubricant gallon front labelsAccording to the label, this product is “The COMPLETE Fuel Treatment” and it “Neutralizes Poor Quality Fuel”.

The gallon bottle says that the contents treat 400 gallons of gasoline or diesel fuel.

Pictured here are the two panels on the back of the gallon bottle of this product. We’ll look at them individually.

Lucas Upper Cylinder Lubricant gallon back label 1This panel describes the reason why someone might want to buy the product. It reads:

“Lost some power or fuel economy?

“Try this for a diesel tune-up: Fill primary fuel filter with Lucas Fuel Treatment and pour the balance of the bottle directly into the fuel tanks.

“Contains special clean burning additives to facilitate a complete combustion burn for more power, better fuel economy and fewer emissions.

“For use in all climates – contains nothing that could be harmful or useless. Contains no solvents, kerosene or diesel
fuel.

“Official Oil Products of NHRA

“Controls excess emissions, reduces fuel smoke.”

Lucas Upper Cylinder Lubricant gallon back label 2This panel provides “before” and “after” illustrations regarding use of the product.

It reads:

“Fouled Injectors Can Cause:

“- Loss of Fuel Economy

“- Loss of Power

“- Burned Pistons

“- Premature Overhauls

“This product more than pays for itself in fuel savings alone!”

Lucas Upper Cylinder Lubricant quart front labelLucas Upper Cylinder Lubricant quart back labelA statement that appears on the quart bottle of Lucas Upper Cylinder Lubricant is that the product is “Environmentally Friendly”.

Other statements that appear on this product that do not appear on the gallon size product read:

“Lubricates compression rings for easier piston travel, more power and less cylinder wear.

“Lubricates pumps, carburetors, injectors and compression rings.

“Creates a cushion seal at the valve seat for higher compression, more fuel economy and less valve wear.”

Interestingly, there is a difference in the claim regarding the savings the user can experience by using the product, as
shown on the gallon and quart bottles of this product. (Note: This may have changed since these photos were taken.)

  • The gallon bottle in our photo reads, “This product more than pays for itself in fuel savings alone!”
  • The quart bottle in our photo reads, “This Product Should More Than Pay For Itself in Fuel Savings Alone!”

Note the inclusion of the word “should” in the second sentence.

A smaller label on both bottles says that the product is a “FUEL SAVER” and that it increases MPG.

We want to know if this product lives up to all of the stated claims.
